Matthew 5:3–5 (Review)
What Jesus Is Teaching
The Beatitudes are not separate virtues but a growing portrait of a transformed life. Jesus begins with poverty of spirit — recognizing our need for God. That humility leads naturally to mourning over sin and brokenness. As the heart softens, strength becomes surrendered, producing meekness.
Each step prepares the way for the next. This is not self-improvement but Spirit-formed character unfolding over time.
Discipleship is a process where God patiently shapes us into the likeness of Christ.
Why This Matters for Discipleship
Growth rarely happens all at once. The Holy Spirit works progressively, forming humility before strength, tenderness before influence, surrender before inheritance.
Understanding this helps us embrace the journey rather than rush transformation.
