Following Jesus isn’t built on big spiritual moments.

Scripture

Jesus said:

“If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me.”
— Luke 9:23 (NASB 1995)

What Jesus Is Teaching

Following Jesus is not built on occasional spiritual highs or dramatic moments of faith. His invitation is daily and intentional.

When Jesus calls us to take up our cross, He is inviting us to surrender our own desires, priorities, and control each day. Discipleship is not a single decision but an ongoing posture of choosing His way over our own.

It is built through daily surrender.
Why This Matters for Discipleship

Walking It Out

Discipleship grows in the ordinary rhythms of life. Each day presents small opportunities to choose His way over our own — extending forgiveness, turning away from compromise, or choosing prayer instead of reaction.

These moments may seem small, but they are where spiritual formation truly happens. Faith matures not through occasional inspiration but through consistent obedience.
Reflect & Respond

Walking It Out

Today, consider one simple step of obedience before you.

Ask:
What small “yes” might Jesus be inviting me to offer today?

Choose one practical action:

  • Forgive someone.
  • Pause to pray before reacting.
  • Speak encouragement.
  • Turn away from a known compromise.

Faith grows through daily steps

Reflect & Respond

What small step could help you follow Jesus more intentionally?
Prayer

Where do you tend to wait for big spiritual moments instead of practicing daily obedience?

What area of your life requires surrender today?

Prayer

Lord Jesus, teach me to follow You faithfully each day. Help me surrender my will to Yours in the ordinary moments of life. Give me courage to obey in small things and trust that You are shaping me through daily faithfulness. Amen.
